“A museum devoted to encouraging children to read and enjoy stories seems a wonderful idea. It’s especially fitting that it’s based in Oxford, which from Lewis Carroll onwards has always been associated with brilliant children’s literature.”
Dame Jacqueline Wilson, former Children’s Laureate and Story Museum patron
Oxford is the ideal location. A world centre of language and learning, home to some of the best-loved children’s writers and illustrators in the world – from Lewis Carroll, JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis to Philip Pullman – the city has the heritage, the visitors (over 8 million each year) and the local support to sustain a vibrant children’s museum.
We have identified possible sites for our building in the west of the city centre and are part of the City Council’s planning framework for the area.
