Description:
A pilot project (formerly Family Reading Matters) which aims to help reduce social exclusion by supporting individuals and communities to become more literate, PiL focuses on disadvantaged families and the home environment. Its long-term goal is to involve more families in their children’s early language development, through speaking, listening, reading and writing in the home.
PiL is currently working with local authorities to look at and develop local multi-agency approaches to supporting literacy. A strategic coordinator has been funded in four pilot authorities: Derbyshire, Knowsley, Sheffield and Wiltshire.
Piloted by the National Literacy Trust and funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
