In 2008 a National Year of Reading was held to foster a passion for reading in children, families and adult learners alike. Its legacy includes Wikireadia, an online database which provides a guide to good practice for anyone supporting readers, and Reading for Life.
The first National Year of Reading was held in 1998. The second celebration of reading was delivered a decade later by a consortium of partners led by the National Literacy Trust and The Reading Agency, on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
