making room for stories
May 1-27 2012
An exciting artistic collaboration will turn our dilapidated building into a giant compendium of strange, amusing and haunting stories.

Imagine room after room, each with a story to tell. Some large, some small, some full of memories, others full of cobwebs; some leading to strange secrets, others to a dead end.
Other Worlds is an exhibition of intriguing new storytelling partnerships. Writers, visual and other creative artists, will bring these rooms to life in an exciting installation, inspired by the distinctive character of the building.
breathing life into mysterious spaces
We have more than 50 rooms, many of which formed Oxford’s main post office and telephone exchange. Before our transformation into a world-class museum celebrating story and storytelling, Other Worlds will introduce you to the Museum’s
potential and celebrate the power of story-telling in many different forms.
clues and secrets
More than 25 collaborations draw you into the spaces in mysterious ways. Go where curiosity takes you, from room to room at your own pace, looking for items and clues of stories being made - and entering imaginative other worlds.
adding to the story store
Oxford is a magical city of stories, with authors such as Lewis Carroll, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis and Philip Pullman taking us on wonderful imaginary journeys. Other Worlds continues the tradition.

a collaboration with Dark Angels
Other Worlds is the concept of Dark Angels, which brings together business writers keen to keep their creativity sharp. Their collective writing power forms the nucleus of the exhibition. Dark Angels runs workshops, courses and master classes which look at how to use words more engagingly and imaginatively. They are joined by some invited artists and wordsmiths, including Michael Rosen, Kate Clanchy, Roger Dean and Korky Paul.
