Ted and Pandora Dewan
are Pod and Arrietty from The Borrowers, (1952), by Mary Norton
Ted was born in Massachusetts, USA. He began drawing at the age of two (on the hall wallpaper), storytelling at three (about the fat boy who fell into some alphabet soup) and taking on paid commissions during his teens. He studied engineering and electronic music at university and spent five years as an unconventional physics teacher at a Boston boarding school before moving to London, where he worked as an illustrator and cartoonist and married children’s picture book author Helen Cooper. In 2001 they moved to Oxford and Ted divided his time between caring for their daughter Pandora, born in 1998, writing and illustrating picture books including Bing Bunny and Crispin the Pig Who Had It All, and bringing his distinctive brand of art and mischief to civic celebrations and traffic-calming schemes. Ted works in Philip Pullman’s former writing shed and was the Story Museum’s first artist-in-residence. Pandora shares her parents’ creative talents and now has her own shed.
