our vision

The Story Museum will be a world centre for story and storytelling.

We believe that stories are essential for children's intellectual and emotional development so we aim to develop a story-rich society in which children can enjoy a wide variety of stories as they grow.

We will do this through:

Persuasion: convincing adults how vital stories are

Example: showing 1001 inspiring ways to learn through stories

Support: sharing the skills and resources to make this possible.

did you know?

55% of 5-year-olds have inadequate spoken language for school.

21% of 11-year-olds can't read well enough for secondary school.

80% of UK prisoners have difficulty writing.

Since 2001 British children have fallen from 3rd to 19th in reading literacy.

Enjoying reading affects how children do at school more than their parents' education or income.
