past Alice Day highlights

Here are just a few of the events and activities that have taken place in our two previous Alice’s Days, enjoyed by more than 13,000 visitors. More than 30 organisations and 17 venues offered talks, exhibitions, storytelling, family events, walks, picnics, performances, music and much more.   • Family fun and children’s art activities in Blackwell’s and Borders bookshops,  and at Oxford University’s Museum of Natural History.
  • A chance to see the earliest editions of Alice in Wonderland, including the very first printing in 1865 in the Bodleian Library.Another mad hatter
  • A variety of exhibitions including: Alice illustrations by Salvador Dali, a printing plate for the Mouse’s Tale, playing cards and posters, Lewis Carroll’s photographic equipment and Alice-inspired textiles.
  • Storytelling in various historic locations including the Bodleian Library, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Oxford, with support from Oxfordshire's mobile library service.
  • Picnic and promenade performances in the Botanic Garden by Curious Company and others, plus jazz.
  • White Rabbits all about town, performed by members of the 16/22 Oxford Playhouse young company.
  • All sorts of talks from the experts, including Lewis Carroll’s Puzzles and Games for families and Dodgson and Darwin.
  • Author book signing – last year we welcomed Helen Oxenbury.Helen Oxenbury
  • Treasures at the Ashmolean Museum. including facsimiles of Lewis Carroll’s diary entries.
  • Alice-themed walks in the meadows and along the towpath following the route rowed by Lewis Carroll and the three Liddell girls on July 4 1862 - and boat trips too.
  • Visits to Christ Church, where Lewis Carroll lived and worked.
