To celebrate the launch of our brand new exhibition Animal, we’re going this wild this half-term with an amazing menagerie of workshops and events!
Saturday 13 February
Animal Exhibition Launch!
Dress as your favourite animal and join us for the grand opening of our Animal exhibition. Use all your senses to experience favourite tales, books and films and learn how their animal heroes are faring in the real world. Howl like a hunter. Dive beneath the sea. Discover your daemon. Explore your wild side… £7.50/5. All ages.
Experience what it’s like to get up close and personal with some of the most fascinating animals on the planet including snakes, turtles, lizards and salamanders! Included with museum entry ticket. All ages.

Come and be amazed by magician Duncan Saunders, as he performs astonishing tricks all with an animal theme to celebrate the launch of our Animal exhibition.

George McGavin’s Bug Love Event
Join natural history expert and star of BBC’s The One Show George McGavin, as he explores the fascinating world of minibeasts. £7/5. Ages 5+.
If you love creepy crawlies then you’ll love our insect handling session! Included with museum entry ticket. ALL AGES.

Bring your favourite animal to life in 3D stop-motion. From storyboarding to the editing suite, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the fundamentals of animation with Helen Piercy. £50 (full day) £30 (half day). Ages 8-12.

Varjak Paw – The Kung Fu Cat
Join author SF Said as he introduces the world of Varjak Paw, the outlaw cat, skilled in martial arts, and with a nose for adventure and mystery.

Make your own ‘super animal’ with Science Oxford and learn about species adaptation and habitats. £5/7. AGES 6-11.
Friday 19 February
Storytime with the Zoomers!
Come along for a session of story time and live drawing with Ana and Thiago de Moraes, the team who created The Zoomers’ Handbook, and get the chance to create your very own Zoomer creature! £5/7. Ages 3+.
Animal Writing Workshop with Nicky Singer
Award winning author Nicky Singer, whose novel ‘Island’ features in our exhibition, leads an animal writing workshop. Explore and practice bringing animals to life through words and write your own animal story for our exhibition. £12 Ages 8-12.
