A swashbuckling story about pirates and thieving dinosaurs.

Story

Flinn loves colouring in dinosaurs. One day, while he’s hunting for more colouring pens he discovers a real live pirate, hiding in the cupboard! Flinn and his school friends vow to help a distraught Captain Stubble recover his stolen pirate ship, The Acorn. They are all made honorary pirates and set off, on an old pirate ship, with Captain Flinn at the helm. It’s not too long before Pirate Violet spots the Acorn, but they soon realise that the thieves are no ordinary pirates. An almighty battle follows, but will they recover The Acorn or not?

Why we chose it

Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs was hugely popular with visitors to our Pumpkin story tent as it toured festivals and schools in the summer of 2018.

It’s a great story to read aloud and share with a group

Where it came from

Giles Andreae (1966) studied at Oxford University and is a British writer and illustrator. He is based in Oxfordshire in the UK, where he lives with his wife. He has four children and says he gets lots of his ideas from trying to keep his own children entertained.

Where it went next

In 2015 Les Enfant Terribles presented Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs at the Theatre Royal Winchester and in 2019 the dramatisation was part of Imagine Children’s Festival at The Southbank Centre.

There is also an animated TV Series based on the books which is broadcast in many different languages.
