A quirky and haunting short film by one of the most interesting stop motion animators.

Story

The Maker is a quirky six-minute stop motion animation about a strange rabbit-like creature racing against time to complete his greatest work - and perhaps the love of his life. With enormous care and concentration he sculpts and stitches and serenades his new creation so they can enjoy a few precious moments together.

Why we chose it

Inspired by a beautiful piece of modern classical music by Australian composer Paul Halley this simple and haunting story without words highlights the brief time we have on earth to spend with loved ones and fulfil our purpose.

Where it came from

Christopher Kezelos is acclaimed as one of the most interesting new stop motion animators. This tiny masterpiece was the result of an international collaboration between an American designer, Australian production crew and British post-production team. It was praised by critics and viewers of all ages. The Maker and Kezelos’ earlier short film Zero have been viewed online 25 million times.

Where it went next

In 2016 Christopher Kezelos and his wife Christine published an expanded version of the story as a 212-page children’s book, Magnum Opus, described as an epic fantasy adventure. The Maker has inspired many fan projects is being developed into a feature length film.

Associated stories

Kezelos’ first short film, Zero, won 15 awards in 2009, and was developed into a 100-page graphic novel.
