Day by Day Course Breakdown

Monday 26 July - Creating Heroes: From Hercules to Maid Marian
In this day workshop, you will work with our Story Leaders to create your own superhero or super villain through games, discussion and storytelling. Role play your own labours inspired by those of Hercules, decide on your own take on ‘steal from the rich to give to the poor’ and craft your own hero or villain mask to carry out your super deeds.

Tuesday 27 July - Comic Superheroes: From Batman to Black Panther
In the morning, you will work with comic artist Samantha Davies to create your own superhero comic strip. In the afternoon, you will create a role play with the Story Leaders using the characters you have created.

Wednesday 28 July - Weapons of Power: From King Arthur to Joken Saki
Today you will visit The Whispering Wood and the Story Leaders will tell the stories of King Arthur’s Sword in the Stone, and of the charming Japanese tale of Joken Saki, a woman’s sword pulled from the sea. You will then make your own Excalibur or Joken Saki weapon of power for your own superhero character, using recycled materials.

Thursday 29 July - Superhero Power: Movement and Flight
In the morning, you will have a street dance workshop with dancer Emma Jane Grieg from Body Politic. In the afternoon, finesse your finest Superhero poses to capture in a series of action shots. Green screen techniques will show you flying over skyscrapers and other super feats of daring!

Friday 30 July - Villain Lairs: From Dracula to Baba Yaga
Today you will visit the Enchanted Library and see how the Story Museum creators have designed rooms based on stories. Join in with oral storytelling from the Story Leaders on villains from folklore. Using inspiration from designs for the Museum’s spaces, you will design and make your own villain’s lair in a box.
