The expected runtime of this event is Day course
We're getting up close to some marvellous minibeasts for three days of our popular Story Explorer skills courses for ages 8-12. Book one day or come for all three.
Tuesday 30 May: Anansi Stories
Join our Story Leaders to explore stories of Anansi, the trickster spider, from Ghanian and Jamaican traditions. You’ll make a den for the animals, with maybe a booby trap or two inside, then create your own trickster tale and enjoy a bug handling session with Chris's Animal Encounters. There’ll be games, craft, riddles and jokes along the way.
Wednesday 31 May: Creative Creatures
Inspired by the new exhibition, Brilli-Ant, we’ll explore the story of Aesop’s Ant and the Grasshopper, and Lewis Carroll’s inventions for insects in Alice Through the Looking Glass – rockinghorse fly, anyone? Then you’ll invent your own minibeast with his own mini superpowers.
Thursday 1 June: Slugs and Snails
Today we’ll explore a story from the South Pacific Islands in which a snail becomes the Moon. We’ll have a slug-track treasure trail, and see how fascinating these underrated creatures are. We’ll also also be making slime – but not just any slime, this is Story Slime! Today we’ll be getting crafty so please bring clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
Days run from 10:00 - 16:00. Or just add on 'wrap around care' at the checkout and extend the day from 09:00 - 17:00. All sessions are led by our skilled Story Leaders. Suitable for ages 8-12.
