Everyday adventures are enjoyed by the children living in Apple Tree House, an inner city housing estate.

Story

Mali has just moved to Apple Tree House, an inner city housing estate, where he meets Sam, daughter of the estate’s caretaker. Together they solve problems and have everyday adventures in a contemporary world, which viewers will recognise.

Why we chose it

Apple Tree House mixes live action and animation to show the world from a child’s point of view. It is filmed in Tower Hamlets, east London and its stories of day to day life take place in a world that children will recognise.

Where it came from

CBeebies wanted programmes that showed more authentic view of life for its young viewers. In Apple Tree House the diversity of its cast and setting reflects the lives of urban children today. Mali and Sam meet and are helped by a number of characters of all ages with very different backgrounds.

Where it went next

Apple Tree House won the Best Pre-School Programme award at the Broadcast Awards in 2018. It was also nominated for BAFTA’s in 2017 and 2018.

There is an Apple Tree House game on the Cbeebies website.
