A game for teenagers which follows the stories of two teenagers from very different worlds.

Story

Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are teenagers living in two very different worlds. Vella has just been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster but she is determined to break with tradition and escape. Shay is alone drifting through space in the care of his ship’s computer but longing for adventure. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the adventures that follow

Why we chose it

Broken Age is a story led adventure game from one of the great story game creators, particularly praised for its witty dialogue and appealing characters

Where it came from

Broken Age was funded by a record breaking crowdfunding campaign. It was designed by Tim Schafer, known in the games industry for his story based adventure games. The characters are voiced by well-known names including Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Will Wheaton and Masasa Moyo. The game focuses on story, dialogue and puzzle solving

Where it went next

The game was released in two acts, one in 2014 and the second fifteen months later. Both were well received by players and critics

Tim Schaffer received a BAFTA fellowship in 2018.
