Captain Britain fights to uphold the law.

Story

Brian Braddock was a lonely child with an interest in physics. After the death of his parents, he takes a fellowship at Darkmoor Nuclear Research Centre. The centre is attacked by super villain The Reaver and Brian goes to get help by escaping on his motorbike. He crashes his bike and nearly dies but is saved by Merlyn and his daughter, the Omniversal Guardian Roma. They turn him into Captain Britain, a superhero who lives to fight for the laws of Britain and protect it from mystical enemies.

Why we chose it

Captain Britain was the first original comic created for Marvel UK and was written and drawn by Alan Moore and Alan Davis, two of the greatest and most influential comic writers and artists.

Where it came from

Captain Britain was written by Alan Moore and drawn by Alan Davis. It was the first original content made for Marvel UK (previously it printed reprints from Marvel USA). Captain Britain was originally intended for the UK audience but he later featured in many crossovers in the USA comic books as well.

Where it went next

Over the years Captain Britain’s character was used by Marvel in many different ways, either as a stand alone story or alongside other Marvel characters. He has featured in several Marvel TV series, computer games and also appeared on some Royal Mail postage stamps.

Associated stories

Captain Britain is a member of the Marvel Universe and has many crossovers with other Marvel characters. He is the member of a superhero group Excalibur along with Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Pheonix III and Meggan from the X-Men series.
