A joyful song from Senegal.

Story

Fatou yo

(Balanta or Mandinka ?)

Fatou yo si dia dialano
Fatou yo si dia dialano
Fatou yo si dia dialano
Fatou yo si dia dialano

The song is about a little girl singing about her enjoyment of dancing just like children all over the world, and dreaming of singing and dancing with young giraffes and elephants.

In Senegal the song is a dance in which children move in a line, holding the waist of the person in front of them.

Why we chose it

A joyous song that it’s difficult not to dance to!

Where it came from

It was recorded by the Sengalese band Toure Kunda

Where it went next

The song was included on the World Playground CD recorded by Putumayo Kids.
