Ghost finds himself on the elite sprinting team but must do everything that he can to stop his past getting in the way of his future.

Story

It was three years ago that Ghost’s Dad chased him and his Mum down the road with a gun. His dad went to prison and Ghost learned he could run. Ghost always thought that basketball was his sport, but now he is on the elite sprinting team. To stay there he only must keep out of trouble, which is easier said than done when you have bullies sizing up to you at school and a troubled past behind you.

Why we chose it

A story about finding out what you can do. Ghost has a lot to prove and a past that could get in the way.

Where it came from

Jason Reynolds is an American author who writes novels and poetry for young adults. He found his first inspiration in rap and this inspired him to write poetry.

Where it went next

Ghost was a National Book Award Finalist. It was followed by a further four books creating the Run series – Patina, Sunny and Lu – each focusing on a different child on the running team.

Associated stories

Other novels include When I was the Greatest, Boy in the Black Suit, and As Brave As You Are
