Story

Skilly House is a home for children without a home. That’s Ira and Zac. Again. This time, Ira decides to keep a diary to tell the stories of growing up unloved in a world that doesn’t really see her or her little brother as they are moved from one home to the next. Maybe if it’s written down, she thinks, someone will start to notice?

Why we chose it

A story of growing up in care, honestly told in the voice of a child who longs for a home and to be loved.

Where it came from

Little Bits of Sky is S.E. Durrant’s debut novel. Wanting to be a writer since childhood, she would write in her spare time while working other jobs.

Where it went next

The book has had success internationally with translation rights sold in eight different languages. The author has also kept a similar design for her other books, giving her work a distinctive look on the bookshelf.
