Miranda, Cal and Jack are determined to find a way to stay at the failing Dodo Hotel.

Story

The Dodo Hotel, hidden in a beautiful Cornish Cove and with its own resident ghost has not has many guests recently. Miranda, her brothers Cal and Jack are devastated when their parents decide to sell it! The parents send them off to boarding school while they decide what to do.

But the siblings are determined to get the hotel up and running again, so escape the boarding school and flee back to the Dodo. However, their first guests are not what they were expecting…

Why we chose it

An adventure story full of humour with a fast paced plot, feisty characters, ghosts, pirates, mermaids and a satisfying mystery to solve.

Where it came from

Ally Kennen is a British author of adventure novels and thrillers for children and teens. While her early books were thrillers for teenagers, Midnight Pirates is an adventure story aimed at slightly younger children (9+).

Associated stories

Another children’s adventure story set on the Cornish coast is Dead Man’s Cove by Lauren St John.

Ally Kennen has written a number of books for children and teenagers. Teenage thrillers include Bedlam, Berserk, Quarry and Beast while Sparks for slightly younger readers (9+) is the story of Carla who wants to make her grandad’s dying wish come true.
