Mold's extraordinary nose helps him with his quest.

Story

Mold may be small but his nose makes up for it. Found in a dustbin as a baby, he was raised by the potion-maker Aggy. When she is accused of poisoning the king and imprisoned, Mold sets out on an adventure to clear her name using his extraordinary nose to help him.

Why we chose it

A fantasy adventure full of gruesome characters, mortal danger and a thrilling race against time. Mold is an unusual and engaging hero, loyal, brave and with a great sense of smell – which is very much an integral part of the plot.

Where it came from

Lorraine was an avid borrower of books from her local library as a child and wrote many stories in her head. There they stayed until, reading to her young son, she began scribbling down her own stories to tell him. Those stories became the basis for Mold and the Poison Plot.

Where it went next

When visiting schools, Lorraine offers some interesting activities. You might enjoy creating your own Putrid Potion, similar to those found in the pages of Mold, or maybe you could try your hand (and test your nose) with The Super Stinky Pongorific Gameshow Challenge! Get ready for wonderful whiffs…

Associated stories

Lorraine’s second novel was published in May 2019 and is entitled The Maker of Monsters.
