A poem about finding your own voice and finding the poetry that speaks to you.

Story

Poetry can seem like something old fashioned, too wordy, and difficult to connect too. But when poetry becomes a part of something you love, the words can hold so much meaning and spark your imagination. Poetry ? explores hearing an MC perform for the first time, and showing how this is poetry too!

Why we chose it

Karl Nova was our 2019-2020 Poet in Residence and was a hit with local Oxfordshire schools. This poem teaches us how the magic of stories can be transmitted through any forms and voices that speak to you as a person, not just the ones that have been traditionally seen as “classics”.

Where it came from

Karl Nova is a Hip-Hop artist, poet, and author. Hip-Hop and rap majorly influence his poetry and he uses this to engage with young audiences who are familiar with the style. He works for his content to be ‘wholesome, inspirational but still very real’.

Where it went next

Karl Nova has contributed to multiple national poetry days and was awarded the CLPE, CLIPPA 2018 poetry award for In Rhythm and Poetry.

Associated stories

2020 Premier League writing stars competition verse contribution. ‘Beautiful Ambition’.
