An Ancient Egyptian myth telling how the world began.

Story

An Egyptian creation myth telling how Ra the Sun god called the world into being.

Why we chose it

This was one of the stories in The Story Museum’s original audio stories collection. These stories are particularly suitable for learning to retell.

Where it came from

Osiris and Isis are Egyptian gods. They are the children of Nut and Geb, the sky goddess and the earth god. Osiris and Isis became king and queen of Egypt. When Osiris was killed by his brother Set he became god of the Underworld.

Where it went next

Egyptian myths continue to fascinate children today and there are a number of collections of the myths, including Tales of Ancient Egypt by Roger Lancelyn Green, Ancient Egypt – Tales of Gods and Pharoahs by Marcia Williams and The Orchard Book of Stories from Ancient Egypt by Robert Swindells.

Associated stories

Children’s novels set in Ancient Egypt include The Time Travelling Cat by Julia Jarman, The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan, Casting the Gods Adrift by Geraldine McCaughrean and Pepi and the Secret Names by Jill Paton Walsh
