A story that show how things that are loved can be kept alive in stories.

Story

A beloved coat is reused in different ways again and again until it becomes a story.

Why we chose it

This story has become a very popular story with British storytellers. There were two versions of the story in our original audio collection.

Where it came from

Chris Smith recorded Snip Snip for our audio collection. He first heard it told by Roger Cullen and has since heard it told by dozens of storytellers.

Where it went next

Former storytelling laureate Taffy Thomas retold it in Taffy’s Coat Tales. Taffy heard it from Scottish traveller storyteller Duncan Williamson. There is also a version called The Blue Coat in Hugh Lupton’s The Story Tree: Tales to Read Aloud.
