Story

When 14 year old Laura’s brother Jacko is possessed by a sinister antique dealer, she has to decide whether she will changeover from normal life to become a witch herself in order to save him.

A supernatural thriller for teenage readers.

Where it came from

Margaret Mahy was a New Zealand author whose many books often touched on fantasy and supernatural themes.

Where it went next

The novel won the Carnegie Medal in 1984. The Changeover was adapted into a film which was released in 2017.

Associated stories

Margaret Mahy also won the Carnegie Medal for The Haunting in 1982 another story in which a brother and sister have to come to terms with their relationship with supernatural forces.
