The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Story

You (the player) awake in prison for an unknown crime. Suddenly, you are disturbed by the Emperor as he flees from some assassins– and needs access to a hidden escape route through your cell!

Pardoned for your crime, you accompany the Emperor and escape into the world of Cyrodil. But there is something wrong …. gates to a dangerous realm called Oblivion have popped up all over Cyrodil and strange creatures are being unleashed into the world, causing destruction.

You must follow an epic mission to bring Cyrodil back to peace again and close the gates to Oblivion!

Why we chose it

When it came out, Oblivion was a revolutionary game for its use of actors, Non-Player Characters (NPCs) and world building.

Where it came from

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is part of The Elder Scrolls Series. the first game was The Elder Scrolls Arena in 1994. The Elder Scrolls Arena was Bethesda’s first Role-Playing Game (RPG) and has become one of their most popular game franchises.

Where it went next

It was followed by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which really developed the work done in Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim won Game of the Year at the VGA awards in 2011 and has since been recognized as one of the most influential games of the 2010s.
