A sack, a cunning fox and a lot of nosy people...

Story

An old English trickster tale of a cunning fox, a sack, a series of nosy people, and a wily fox getting his comeuppance.

Why we chose it

A great story to tell and a favourite of our Learning team.

Where it came from

The Fox's Sack is an old English folktale, but, as with most animal tales, versions of it can be found all over the world.

Where it went next

One of the most well-known adaptations is by Paul Galdone (1982).

Associated stories

The wily fox is a staple in literature and appears in stories from all over the world. It appears in Aesop’s Fables, Chaucer, Greek mythology, Dogon mythology, and many others. Beatrix Potter’s Mr Tod, Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, and Disney’s The Fox and the Hound are some of the most popular fox stories for children.
