Be thankful for what you have. In this tale a man is encouraged to solve a problem but finds that he has made things worse.

Story

A man finds an unusual way to solve the problem of his noisy house.

Why we chose it

The Noisy House was one of the stories in our original audio collection. These stories are particularly suitable for learning to retell.

Where it came from

The story probably originated as a Jewish Polish folktale where a rabbi teaches thankfulness for what you have because things can always be worse.

Where it went next

There are a number of picture book versions of the story. The best known is probably A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson and Axel Shaffler. Another is The Very Noisy House by Julie Rhodes and Korky Paul.
