Become a Youth Collections Ambassador

We’re looking for young people to become Youth Collections Ambassadors to develop our story and object collections.

Youth Collections Ambassadors

The Story Museum’s Youth Collections Ambassadors are a group of young people aged 11-18 who work with the Museum’s Collections team to help to develop the 1001 Stories collection and the Object collection. This is a voluntary role.

We are looking for young people who:

  • are aged 11-18
  • love stories and want to share them and talk about them
  • want to learn new skills and meet new people
  • are interested in finding out and being part of what goes on behind the scenes in a museum

The role

As a Youth Collections Ambassador you will have the opportunity to:

  • help to shape The Story Museum’s 1001 Stories collection
  • send reviews, recommendations and suggestions of stories to be included in our 1001 Stories collection. (Reviews will be published in regular newsletters and on the 1001 Stories website. They will form part of the information held by the Museum on the stories.)
  • be part of the collections development process and feed into decisions about objects to acquire
  • curate a dedicated Youth Collections Ambassadors showcase in the Enchanted Library and help to develop collections information available in the Galleries – writing captions, interpretation boards and information booklets

What you will get:

  • 6 newsletters per year
  • a membership pack sent on joining (including membership card and bookmark)
  • invitations to 6 meetings at The Story Museum (one every other month)
  • free books to review
  • a reward scheme for reviewers
  • the opportunity to develop transferable skills you can use in the future
  • experience of working in a museum

If you would like to join the Youth Collections Ambassadors please contact our Collections Manager, Cath Hogan at [email protected]
