Our exciting new exhibition space will host touring exhibitions and visiting treasures.

The Making of The Story Museum - 22 May - 6 June 2021

How do you make a Story Museum? Discover how our architects, designers, builders, artists and young producers have transformed our dilapidated former telephone exchange into a most unusual home for 1001 great stories. And how thousands of people of all ages have shaped our founding vision into an exciting reality.

See excavated objects that reveal the site’s deeper history, compare before and after pictures, architectural plans and exhibition models, and watch time lapse footage of our building - and a dragon - taking shape.

Younger visitors will enjoy spotting ‘Eye Bombs’, finding some surprising letters, and taking a selfie in a rather special hard hat!

This exhibition has been created in partnership with Purcell UK.

The Book of Hopes - From 17 July 2021
Created by the Story Museum with Guest Curator Katherine Rundell

A new and home-grown exhibition inspired by the award winning 2020 book of the same title, which is about finding hope in the little things and imagining new possibilities; something we have all found ourselves needing to do in recent times.

So come and play in our Garden of Possibilities! Plant a new idea, talk with a friend over the garden fence, spend time in our Creativity Sheds and see what new green shoots appear in your imagination.

This exhibition will feature original work and storytelling from many of the UK's best loved children’s writers. Children’s author, editor of the Book of Hopes and Guest Curator of this season, Katherine Rundell, says: ‘Children’s writers and illustrators are professional hunters of hope. We seek it out, catching it in our nets, setting it down between the pages of a book, and sending it out into the world’. With this season, the Story Museum is celebrating the work of these brilliant storymakers as well as the human capacity for hope, creativity and joy.
