What would a dragon's brain look like? Find out more in this family activity with Professor Rogier Mars (University of Oxford). Start with a dragon story and then work with Professor Mars to explore how different animals' brains work and how they have adapted in special ways. You'll get the chance to design your own 3D dragon brain, combining science and imagination in a craft activity that families can enjoy together.

Three days of workshops for young people aged 8-12 on spies, mysteries and adventure!
Our Story Explorer courses offer young people the opportunity to explore their creativity, with guest appearances from professional story-makers including authors, artists, musicians and drama practitioners. Sessions are led by our expert Story Leaders and involve plenty of games and fun along the way. It's a great way to make new friends, try new activities and immerse yourself in the world of stories. Book individual days or all three.
Tues 29 Oct: Choose Your Own Adventure with Kyandreia Jones
Transform into a mystery busting detecetive with author Kyandreia Jones in a day of espionage and interactive storytelling. Kyandreia will use her latest Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) book, Spies: Josephine Baker to guide aspiring agents through narrative world-building and choice-making to create your very own adventure. Kyandreia is author of three CYOA novels: CYOA Spies: James Armistead Lafayette; CYOA Spies: Mary Bowser; and Ghost on the Mountain, her first CYOA for younger readers. Her fourth book in the franchise, CYOA Spies: Josephine Baker will be published in spring 2025.

Are your brave enough for a monstrous discovery? Journey into stories about myths and monsters and then create some monster mayhem with fun games and role play. In a special workshop with scientist Rowena Fletcher you'll encounter a mystery in the museum and will have to use yor CSI skills to solve the puzzle!
Thu 31 Oct: Dungeons & Dragons with Rolldark
Enter the cave of dragonlore in our exhibition Here Be Dragons and explore dragon stories from around the world. Led by experts in role play, Rolldark, you will go on a quest in an immersive a game of Dungeons and Dragons - choose your character and embark on an imaginary adventure exploring castles, dungeons, treasure and dragons!
Enjoy an escape-room style family activity to solve a monstrous mystery! Deep in the underground tunnels beneath The Story Museum, a monstrous discovery takes place. Now we need your CSI skills to identify a series of strange objects and put the mystery together. Weave your way round an escape-room-style investigation, performing tasks like bone analysis and footprint measurements. Where will they lead? In partnership with IF Oxford Festival of Science and Ideas.
Guided by expert Dungeon Masters Roll Dark, this immersive workshop will introduce you to Dungeons and Dragons, the interactive storytelling game driven by imagination and role play. Choose your character and embark on an imaginary adventure exploring castles, dungeons, treasure and dragons! Parents are encouraged to join to learn the rules of this brilliant game.
