Explore your creativity and hone your story skills with our Story Explorers holiday courses for ages 8-12

A week of stories celebrating sports without any sporting! Explore stories of Hercules, Thor and the Animals of the Chinese Zodiac, role play fairytales from France in honour of the host of this year’s Olympics. With mask making, dance, drama games and much more! Come for individual days or book for the week.

Monday: The 12 Labours of Hercules with choreographer Emma Webb
Gather your strength for a day exploring the 12 Labours of Hercules! Work through legendary tasks - including defeating the Nemean Lion, stealing golden apples, and cleaning out the Augean Stables! The day starts with a dance workshop with the amazing choreographer Emma Webb followed by games, role play and lots of fun!

Tuesday: The Race for the Zodiac with origami making from Peter Buchan-Symons
Discover stories of the 12 animals that were selected for the race of the Chinese Zodiac by the Jade Emperor, including the cat who was too slow in the race so never became one of the animals representing the lunar new year. Learn how to create some of the Zodiac characters in origami with the brilliant Peter Buchan-Symons.

Wednesday: Thor's Hammer - make a magic pendant
Journey to Asgard for stories of Thor and the trickster Loki. Find out how the legendary Thunder God, Thor Lost his Hammer, Mjölnir, and how he reclaimed it. Create a mythical artefact and craft a magic pendant embellished with Norse knotwork designs and gems, fit for an ancient hero!

Thursday: Stories from La France! with puppeteer Sue Eaves
Celebrate the host of this year’s Olympics in Paris and explore stories from France. Put a modern twist on the fairy tales of Charles Perrault, including BlueBeard, Puss in Boots and Red Riding Hood, through role play, dressing up and lots of games.
Explore the trickster character of Reynard the Fox with puppeteer Sue Eves and learn how to bring fairy tale characters to life.

Friday: Gods and Monsters
Select gods and monsters throughout the history of stories to engage in staged battles of wits and wills. Whether it’s a Mandrake vs the Minotaur or Cupid vs the Cookie Monster, let the best godster win!

Story Explorer workshops run from 10:00-16:00. These are unaccompanied workshops for ages 8-12
Days can be booked individually

At The Story Museum we believe that finances should not impact a young person’s ability to access the arts. Therefore, we offer bursaries for the course price and related travel expenses for low-income families. To apply for a bursary place, please email us.
